I am a beneficiary ((POD) on an account of a deceased individual and am having a problem getting the funds from a bank. I am out of state and send an original death certificate and my driver's license proving my identity. What rights do I have and how can I get the funds from this account?

Customer: I am in Florida and the account is in Ohio
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: I talked to the bank. They said I had to send the death certificate and my driver''s license to prove the death and to prove my identity. Date of death was December 18,2021 and all paperword was

I’m sorry to hear about your issues here, hopefully, we can get them solved quickly.

To collect funds in a POD bank account, all the beneficiary needs to do is go to the bank and present ID and a certified copy of the death certificate. The bank will have the paperwork, signed by the deceased owner, which authorized the beneficiary to inherit the funds. The beneficiary can withdraw the money or open a new account.

It has only been about two weeks so that is not odd. You should contact them and follow up to make sure they have everything they need. But what you have been told, that you need to resent your ID and the death certificate, is accurate for a POD account.

There is likely no problem here other than then they have not processed it yet. They work at their own pace and about 2 weeks is far from unheard of.

It's not feasible for me to go to Ohio for this. That is why I was trying to do it through the mail. I am 80 and the children don't want me making that trip. I have no other questions right now. How do I reconnect when I need you? Same as before?

I cannot say if that particular bank can do it remotely or not.  That is not law, but their internal banking procedures. YOu would have to ask them that.
