I received an email from someone claiming to...

Resolved • Response time 4 minutes

I received an email from someone claiming to be Francois Pinault who says that he is failing in health due to his old age. He has great wealth and would like to share with anonymous individuals provided that they are charitable with the funds. He asked me simple information and a copy of my ID to verify my identity. When he was satisfied, he said that I needed to provide legal documents that are only able to be procured from his location to satisfy legitimacy. This is just the beginning of it but before I go on, and I really would rather not, am I being scammed?
JA: What state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: Pacific Island, US Territory.... Guam
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: From an early email: We acknowledge your email with your information(s) / LETTER OF AUTHORITY from Mr. François Pinault with an instruction to transfer to you (NEW BENEFICIARY) part of his asset (Funds) worth €1,800,000.00 EUR (ONE MILLION EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND EURO) and we have here lodged in our bank the below information issued to Mr. François Pinault.
JA: Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: With the difficulty in distance, 'we' have been trying to fine a way to get that amount, over $2 million, transferred to my bank account. I have just today signed up for an account at a Bitcoin kiosk to transfer $780 of my money to 'confirm' in Edge that I am who I am.

I just signed in my credit card for $60/month. I'm assuming that's what I'm paying for now. If I get on a live call, which I much prefer, that's another $59?

An earlier email received: The intention of this email is to be of immense blessing to people and the world in general, I cannot continue to amass wealth without being a blessing by giving out, I might not have the liberty of time due to my ailment (Dementia), therefore, I am doing this now.
Through the help of our long-time partner, Microsoft Corporation. I've paid $50 to get an Edge wallet confirmed from this person. I've just a few minutes ago paid $60 for this consult. No more paying, please. I am a medically retired female teacher. I just cannot afford it.

The email that was sent to you by this person and what they want you to do, is all part of the scam. You will never see any money. I know plenty of people who have fallen victim to this and lost thousands of dollars along the way.

He says he is billionaire Francois Pinault who would like to share his wealth in his wealth by simply giving it away. He has referred me to Gary Wang, founder of FTX, who is right now actively advising me on how to make a Bitcoin deposit/payment.

Right, but it is a scam. They are trying to convince you that this is real. Once you open the wallet and send the money with Bitcoin, it is not traceable and will be lost.

Yes, indeed. They use the hope of riches, to get you to invest and keep asking for more and more until there is nothing left. I promise you this is not real and if you pay and get involved, you will be left with nothing.
