Stud tail is the basic term for the more scientific term, tail gland hyperplasia. Simply put, this is a dog tail infection. It is a condition that occurs in a dog's supracaudal gland, a gland located in the upper to middle half of a dog's tail.I suggest the following:

• start effective flea control with Seresto collar or Bravecto

• Please purchase a chlorhexidine (Hibiclens)solution at your pharmacy. Dilute with 1 part solution to 10 parts water. Cleanse the wound twice daily. If there is an infection you can purchase Vetericyn at the pet store to try to prevent infection.

If you can find a chlorhexidine scrub (soap) that will also be helpful in removing much of the debris.  Clipping the area will also help.
