Good afternoon, my name is***** to JustAnswer. I am so sorry to hear that your pup ate some paper towels. I am happy to help and see if there is something we can do at home or if a vet visit is needed. Can you describe what kind of papertowels? Are these just normal papertowels that will breakdown pretty easily or more like baby wipes?

Perfect, thank you so much. I am actually not terribly concerned about this since your pup is so big. Please give me just a moment to type further.

The biggest cause for concern is the fact that the paper towels could, theoretically, block the outflow tract of the GI tract. The small intestines are smaller than the large intestines, and can block with smaller objects. Luckily, paper towels generally disintegrate and will most likely pass through without an issue at all! Generally, a meal will pass through the GI tract within 8-12 hours, and sometimes up to 36 hours. Over the next day or two, you will want to keep an eye on:

1. How well he is eating when a meal is given.

2. If his abdomen is painful, particularly if you press on it or if he seems to be having difficulty laying down.

3. Are you noticing and vomiting, lethargy, or difficulty defecating/straining.

If he is otherwise acting normally through tomorrow, you likely will not have to worry about any obstruction from this, as he will likely pass these without issue.

What other questions do you have for me?
