JA: I'm so happy you had a good experience with Dr. Jen, DVM! Do you have any follow-up questions about your dog or would you like a second opinion on anything? It's included!
Customer: My vet prescribed Apoquel for my other dog who is a chihuahua because she has itchy skin. It worked at first but isn't working for her as well as at first.
JA: Sure, I can connect you with someone who specializes in dermatology. Before I do, are there any other details you'd like me to pass on?
Customer: Her name is ***** ***** she weighs 13 pounds and is 9 years old.

I understand your concern with Peach having allergies and that Apoquel is no longer working.  I do need some additional information, though, to see if I can better assess your situation. It may take me a few minutes to respond back, so please be patient.

What dose of Apoquel is she on?

Thanks for the information.  It is possible that her system is becoming more used to it, and she needs to be on a higher dose.  I would talk to your vet about upping the dose.  For a dog her size, I would start on 5.4 mg and divide that twice daily at first to see how that helps.  The other option would be to talk to them about Cytopoint injections if you have not tried that before.  Some dogs have allergies bad enough, that we will keep them on maintenance doses of Apoquel and give a Cytopoint during the bad times of the year for them.  Make sure you are bathing a couple of times a week to wash off allergens from the skin.  An omega 3 fish oil supplement may help to restore normal skin barrier as well.

Thank you so much. I will try all of these things. I will check with the vet about the injection. Peach has had that in the past but it was a few years ago with my previous vet who retired.
