My dog ate 2 small mushrooms in our yard....

Hello, this is Dr. Linda & thank you for contacting JustAnswer.  I am a practicing veterinarian with 30 years experience in general medicine & surgery.  I hope I can assist with your concerns today.

I am so sorry for your worries about Lindsey ingesting the mushrooms.  Because of the potential danger involving some mushroom ingestions, it is best to decontaminate her.  You can try this at home if you have a bottle of fresh (still fizzy) 3% hydrogen peroxide, or you can contact your veterinarian to do this.  Please let me know how you wish to proceed.

The first thing is to feed Lindsey several pieces of bread.  Then sit her down, tilt her head up slightly, pull out her lips near her back cheek teeth & administer 3 TABLESPOONS of the peroxide.  Jiggle her stomach & jog her around a little.  If Lindsey does not vomit within 10-20 minutes, you can repeat the peroxide one more time.  Please let me know how she does.

OK, if she does not vomit in the next 10 minutes, repeat the 3 tablespoons of peroxide making sure it is still fizzy.

OK.  What you want to stay aware of is any additional signs of toxicity that might occur if the mushrooms were toxic.  Mostly, we can see additional vomiting & possibly diarrhea.  If this persists past the next 24 hours, I would be concerned.  In addition, any  loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, change in behavior should all prompt a visit to your veterinarian.  If Lindsey stays happy & well, she should be just fine.

Wait about 20 minutes & go ahead & feed her a light meal.  She will be hungry after vomiting & do make sure to throw out any mushrooms that pop up in your yard.

Yes, feed her normal this evening.  The small meal in about 20 minutes should help settle her stomach.
