My dog is 7 and had arthritis. He takes Galliprant occasionally for it which helps. He has also gotten Adequan injections which seem to help also. My question is if he's had Galliprant can he receive an Adequan injection the same day or not?

Hello, welcome to JustAnswer. My name is***** will be happy to help you. I am sorry to hear that Rooney is having some arthritis problems.  Hopefully the medications are helping him.  To answer your question, yes, he can receive both medications on the same day.  There have been some reports of not using it with an NSAID because because Adequan is a heparin analog, but they have been used together a lot with no issues that I have ever seen.  It would depend on how your vet feels about it, but chances are they would be okay with it.  If there is any concern, it shouldn't be a problem stopping the Galliprant for one day, then restarting it the day after the injection.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok what is a heparin analog and what does that do? I can definitely make sure he gets the injection on a day when I haven't given him any Galliprant that might just be a bit safer.

I think that sounds like a good idea.  Heparin is a anti-coagulant.  It helps to thin the blood so it doesn't clot.  Adequan does not do that but its molecular structure is similar to heparin.  Since it is not recommend to use heparin with an NSAID, some people may not want to use Adequan with an NSAID, but there no firm backing or clinical evidence that I have heard of or seen for that.
